We have used the Carbon Trust figure for the CO2 emissions from grid electricity, and applied that to the electricity useage of the lightbulbs in this scenario.

Reduction in CO2 emissions

This shows the difference in CO2 emissions between LED light bulbs & existing light bulbs depending on the values in the editable fields.

Initial cost for 5 bulbs

This is the number of bulbs multiplied by the price of each bulb.

Average lifespan

This is the average lifespan of the light bulbs. We have used 30,000, 2000 & 1500 hours for LED, halogen incandescent respectively.

Energy cost per month

We take the wattage of the LED bulb & Existing bulb, and work out how much each costs you to run based on your Usage per day, and energy price.

Bulb replacement cost over 27 years

We look at the average lifespan and cost of the relevant bulb technology, and work out the total cost over 30000 (average LED bulb lifespan) hours of operation.

Energy cost per month

We take the wattage of the LED bulb & Existing bulb, and work out how much each costs you to run based on your Usage per day, and energy price.

Energy savings per month

This is the difference between LED bulb monthly energy costs, and your existing bulb monthly energy costs.

Energy savings per year

This takes the monthly energy savings and multiplies it by twelve.

Total lifetime Savings (over 20 years)

This combines the replacement costs & energy costs from LED bulbs and the selected existing bulbs, and shows you how much you could be saving by switching to LED technology over 30000 hours (average LED bulb lifetime).
